Brief History
The poorest of the poor people surround the area of Gobra, Kolkata-46. The people were greatly in need of spiritual, physical and material help. At the invitation of Rev Fr Nicholas Lo Groi SDB, the then Provincial of Kolkata Salesian Province, a new presence began on 24 November 1974. Rev Sr Catherine Das FMA attended the mission of caring the parish run Bengali Medium Primary School from 29 January 1995. Earlier the school was catered by the Missionaries of Charity sisters.

Work began developing with two more sisters who joined the mission, one to look after the Typing and Tailoring classes and the other for running the dispensary and MCH programme for the poor people of the slums, oratory, helping in the pastoral work, family apostolate and family visit, and Church Decorum. The sisters were coming from Auxilium Park Circus. There was a great need for a separate community due to many difficulties. Thus a new community: Auxilium Convent Gobra was established canonically on 15 September 1982 with four sisters.
