Why apple doesn’t use USB-C

Apple, the company who is known to make big leaps in the Smartphone market and letting others follow that way has not yet changed the charging port to the more recent USB-c port. Instead they still use the lightning port from the iPhone 5 lineup from 2012. It is not that Apple doesn’t use the USB-c in any device, the Macs have it, the recent iPads have it, but their most selling iPhones don’t.

This started back in 2012 when Apple wanted to change its charging port from a 30-pin charger to save space and make the iPhone thinner but the USB-c wasn’t ready back then so they had two choices either change the port to lightning type or keep the 30-pin charger, and Apple chose to change the port. They received criticism back then for abandoning the 30-pin charger and for stopping making the 30-pin charger.

So when in 2014 the USB-c was ready they couldn’t change it twice in two years or else they would receive heavy criticism so they continued with the lightning port and along the iPhone the airpods, airpods pro, airpod max also got the lightning port because they were meant to be seamlessly working with the iPhone. But apple has come up with a probable solution to this. They are planning to go portless in some years, but it is easier said than done with the iPhone 12 series Apple launched magsafe which is a wireless charger. We will get to know in coming years what Apple wants to do.
