Village Fair Rasjatra
Village Fair Rasjatra
Every year, on the occasion of Rasjatra, a big fair is held at Nabadwip. This year I
visited this fair. On my way to the fair venue I saw a throng of people going to the fair.
When I reached the fair-ground, I found it totally packed with a large number of
people. Numerous stalls selling various items, such as toys, balloons, ribbons, dolls,
household goods, kitchen utensils, baskets, etc. were set-up. Stalls selling various
edible items like home-made papad, pickle, sweetmeat and hot grams were found.
All these food stalls tempted the passersby, especially the children. The circular
motor-cycle ride and the circus party were the main attraction of the fair. They were
beating the drums loudly to attract more and more spectators. People from different
strata of life visited the ground. They were well dressed for the occasion. Life in
village is usually monotonous and dull. Every year this fair comes as a welcome
break for them. It confers joy and happiness to their otherwise humdrum life. The fair
provides a viable environment for the interaction between the buyers and sellers. The
fair is certainly quite beneficial for the businessmen too. It is actually a perfect
meeting ground for the rich and the poor and old and young.
