SITANADI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY - Chhattisgarh
Established in the year 1974, Sitanadi wildlife sanctuary along with the Udanti wildlife sanctuary forms
the Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve. The sanctuary is named after the River Sitanandi that orginates from
within the sanctuary.
Flora
Forest cover: moist peninsular sal, bamboo and teak forests
Plants and trees: Ber, Tendu, Mahua, Semal, Harra, etc.
Fauna
Tigers, flying squirrel, Chinkara, leopards, bison, python, cobra, nilgai, gaur, black buck, four-horned
antelope, etc.
Avian Fauna
Crimson breasted barbet, peafowl, racket-tailed drongo, teetar, tree pie, heron, bulbul, parrots, etc.
Getting There
The nearest airport and railway station are located in Raipur which is around 175 km away. By road one
can easily reach Sitanadi wildlife sanctuary from Mainpur and Gariaband by hiring jeeps or private cars.
Tourist Information
Tourists can find quality staying options at forest shelter houses at Khallari, Sitanadi and Nagri. Sondur
Dam irrigation rest house can be availed for accommodation with advance booking.
Animal and bird spotting, trekking and nature trail are important tourist activities here. Sondur dam and
hermitages of the pious Hindu saints in the vicinity of the sanctuary are worth visiting.
