Indian Republic Day of India 26 January English Essay
26th of January, 1950 is regarded as the red letter day in the history of India. It was on this very day that India got its own constitution and became a Sovereign Democratic Republic. So, every year, 26 January is celebrated as the Republic Day of India. Indian Republic day is celebrated with great passion and enthusiasm throughout the length and breadth of the country.
For ages India was ruled by the British Empire. It was on 15th of August 1947, that India got its freedom from the tyranny of the British rule and became an independent nation. Then almost two and half years later it became a Democratic Republic. The Drafting Committee was given the task of drafting the permanent constitution of India on 28th of August in 1947. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was the presiding chairman of the Drafting Committee. He submitted to the Assembly the Constitution of India on 4th of November in 1947. However it was only on 26th of January in 1950 that the Constitution of India was fully enforced under the model of "PURNA SWARAJ".
Indian Republic day is organized on a great scale in Delhi, the capital of India, the seat of Indian Government. A great parade of the Indian Armed Forces is held at Rajpath, New Delhi. This parade starts from the Vijay Chowk and concludes at India Gate. Indian Armed Forces which comprises the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air-force, demonstrate their weapons and strengths to the general public. After the parade of the Armed Force, every state of India demonstrates their Jhankis, exhibiting their culture and tradition under the theme of 'Unity in Diversity in India'. Folk dances and songs of India are also displayed by the participants. The event is concluded with a tricolor (saffron, white and green) flower showering from the sky by aeroplanes, symbolizing our National Flag.
Indian Republic day has been declared a gazette public holiday by the Government of India. However, different cultural programmes are held in schools and colleges across the country. All these programmes commence with the flag hoisting and singing of the National Anthem. Many competitions and tournaments are held in different localities, clubs and community halls to mark the importance of the day.
The significance of the Republic Day cannot be ignored at any cost. Today, the very fact that all the citizens of India can enjoy equal rights, liberty and freedom is because of the Constitution of India. Without the Constitution there would have been chaos and exploitation of people and resources in our country. So let us not remain blind or indifferent to this valuable gift that our great leaders have given us, but use it for the benefit and development of our country.
26th January is more of a day of dedication than of rejoicing. So on the Indian Republic day, as responsible citizens of India, the students should take a pledge to make India a peaceful and a developing nation.
