My 14-days quarantine in a 4-star hotel
My 14-days quarantine in a 4-star hotel
Holidaying in a 4-Star or 5-Star luxurious hotel is a way of pampering oneself. The top-class
ambience and hospitality of a luxurious star hotel surely make the visitors feel special and often lure
them to prolong their stay in the hotel. However, the experience of quarantining oneself in a 4-Star
or 5-Star luxurious hotel is completely different. In this case, one does not wish to prolong the stay
but eagerly waits to return home. I can very well understand this feeling as I had to spend 14-days in
quarantine in a 4-Star hotel away from my family.
My trip to Europe was nothing less than a disaster. While it began on a good and happy note,
unfortunately the vacation turned into one of the most unpleasant memories of my life. Not only did
I have to truncate my well-planned vacation, I also had to be in a quarantine facility before returning
to my family. The silver lining to this grey cloud was that my confinement was within the walls of a 4-
Star hotel overlooking a beautiful garden.
After a lot of struggle I got a flight back to my country, but on the condition that I could not
immediately get back to my abode. I was to remain in isolation for a fortnight, after which I would be
given a clearance to go back home. Sad and upset that I could not ultimately complete my Europe
trip, I reached India. A small bus was kept ready within the airport premises to take passengers like
me to the hotel where we were to be quarantined.
All through the journey I was both anxious and apprehensive, but on reaching the 4-Star hotel which
was to be my place of stay for the coming 14 days, I thought life was not so harsh after all. The name
of the hotel was Park Palace. The staff of the hotel took every necessary precaution to welcome us
and usher us to our respective rooms. Each passenger was allotted a separate room, and had to pay
for the daily rental that was reduced considerably. We were not charged for the food. We were
provided three meals a day. However, additional food services were chargeable.
The ambience of the hotel grabbed my attention instantly; it was nice, quiet and serene. When I
reached my own room, there was a sense of calmness and respite in me. I knew I could not reach my
home, but the fact that I could reach my country safe and sound was a relief. So I decided to enjoy
my stay there for the time being by keeping all negativities at bay. The calmness of the hotel had
such a peaceful effect on me that I actually put behind all the fears of the pandemic.
The queen sized bed in my room allowed me to take the most relaxed sleep of my life. The hotel
management took measures to provide us with the necessary requirements during our stay. People
who were quarantined in the hotel were tested for COVID-19 on day 2 and day 10 of the quarantine
period. People who tested negative were allowed to leave the hotel after 14 days, provided they had
no symptoms of COVID-19. This was in sharp contrast to the other stories of quarantine that I had
heard where people were not even getting proper food and care.
The mornings would begin with a sumptuous breakfast. Following which I would make a call to my
parents ensuring that I was fine. The rest of the day I mostly remained in bed and watched the
television. When I got tired of that screen I would delve into my phone’s screen and binge watch
some movie or web series; and made full use of the Wi-Fi that was absolutely free. After some
delicacies for lunch and a short nap, I made a few phone calls to my friends and other relatives
whom I had not contacted in years. Then I would be glued to the screen. This was how I spent my
first few days.
The other facilities of the hotel, such as games room, spa, swimming pool, etc. remained closed
during the pandemic. All the inmates who were quarantined in the hotel had to remain confined to
their respective rooms. We were not allowed to gather in groups anywhere in the hotel. I was really
missing my family and the warmth and comfort of my home. Staying confined in my hotel room
throughout the day gradually started to take a toll on my mind.
I tried to bring in a little change in my regular schedule. I started walking in the garden and meeting
a few other people in the hotel - of course from a distance. I even made an effort to do meditation
as it helped me to keep my mind stable and my emotions under control. I kept counting the days and
waited eagerly for my release from confinement. The hotel staff were extremely kind in providing
me with all the comfort they possibly could.
Finally, my period of quarantine was over and I was given the green signal to go home. I could not
have been happier. The hotel authorities arranged a vehicle for me to go back home and I happily
left the place with a sigh of relief. I was not only thankful that I was safe from the disastrous virus,
but also that I could finally return to my family. It was through this episode of my life that I realised
that nothing can take the place of home; not even a 4-Star or 5-Star luxurious hotel. Someone had
very aptly said – “Home sweet home”.
