Lockdown most trying time – true or not
Lockdown most trying time – true or not
The lockdown was not a very exciting phase of life for anyone, but it is not fair to qualify it as an
entirely negative experience. There were both good times and bad times. With the attendance of
the inmates of the house being a hundred per cent, it surely was a different situation altogether.
Humans were created to be social beings, which is why the interaction among humans is a natural
thing. But unfortunately, we humans who claim to be social beings often crave for solitude. Often
the packed schedules of individuals do not even allow them to spend time with their family. A typical
scenario before the lockdown was that all members of the family, including the children, were busy
with their work throughout the day. And when everyone came back home at night, they would be
too tired to finish their supper somehow and get into bed.
Everyone was used to this way of life. Basically, we had got used to not being around our family too
much. The lockdown, however, changed our lifestyle drastically. Now we were always surrounded by
our family members. This was a happy change, but for some time. I have often noticed and thus
believe that too much or too less of anything can cause problems.
Luckily for me, I did not have to feel suffocated with people breathing over my neck. In my house,
everything worked according to a time table. There was a time set for activities as a family, and
there were time slots for being alone as well. The meals were to abide by the family moments
strictly; no one was allowed to eat separately. Also, an hour in the evening was dedicated to the
family. During that time we would play board games on some days, sometimes, it would be just light
conversations; and at other times music sessions. I enjoyed the music days the most. Both my
parents and I are music lovers; we would sing and play our instruments. I played the guitar and sang,
while my mother and father accompanied me on the harmonium and the mouth organ
respectively. It was a great way to relax.
While my parents understood the need for spending time as a family, they also knew that private
moments were equally important. So, I would spend time with myself doing various activities.
Studies did take up a lot of my time, apart from that I read books, painted, and spent some time on
the mobile phone. The lockdown inspired me to try out different forms of artwork. I learnt origami
and the art of quilling. While all these various activities were happening, the one thing that
shadowed me always was some music or song playing in my room.
I am fortunate to have such parents who are always willing to give me my space. This was the
reason, even during the lockdown, when the whole family was around 24x7, I did not feel the lack of
privacy. So, for me, it is untrue that I did not get space or privacy under lockdown due to the Covid-
19 pandemic.
