ETURNAGARAM WILDLIFE SANCTUARY - Andhra Pradesh
Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at Eturnagaram village in Warangal district of Andhra
Pradesh. It is located on the banks of river Godavari, close to Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and
Maharashtra border. The sanctuary lies about 250km from Hyderabad and around 100km from
Warangal.
Notification: Wildlife Sanctuary: 30th January, 1952.
Flora
Forest Type: Riverine Forest with Bamboo and Dry deciduous Teak Forest.
Trees and plant species: Teak, bamboo, Anogeissus, Pterocarpus, Buchanania, etc.
Fauna
Gaur, Tiger, Sambar, Panther, Black Buck, Fox, Chowsingha, Jackal, Barking Deer, Nilgai, Wild Boar,
Krait, Mugger crocodile, Cobra, Python, etc.
Getting there
Hyderabad airport is the nearest airport to Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary. The closest railway
station is at Warangal and Kazipet, approximately 100km away. From Hyderabad and Warangal
tourists can easily get RTC buses or private vehicles to reach Eturnagaram sanctuary.
Tourist Information
The incoming visitors can find accommodation at the ITDA guest house at Eturnagaram, forest rest
house at Warangal and rest house and cottages at Tadvai.
Dayyam Vagu, a perennial water source passes through the centre of the Eturnagaram sanctuary. Its
banks are the ideal places to view the wild animals and the colourful birds.
The main attraction of the sanctuary is the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara, a biennial festival, which is
organised every year in the sanctuary.
For any information or passes the tourists need to get in touch with the Divisional Forest Officer,
stationed at Warangal or the Forest Range Office at Eturnagara.
