CINQUE ISLAND WILDLIFE SANCTUARY - Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Cinque Island Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled in the Andaman archipelago. It is also a part of
Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. The sanctuary is divided into South and North Cinque
with a sandbar, which in turn has resulted into a magnificent beach with white sand and
rainforest as the backdrop.

Wildlife
Water snakes, starfish, bright angles, salt-water crocodile, turtles, shells, starfish, ocean
anemones, colourful fishes, etc.
Getting there
The closest railway station is at Chennai. By road the Cinque Island can be reached from
Wandoor. Nearest port and airport is at Port Blair which is about 26 km away from Cinque
Island Wildlife Sanctuary. No scheduled ferry services are available for reaching the wildlife
sanctuary. Hence one has to hire chartered boats belonging to the permitted category for
reaching the destination.
Tourist Information
The visitors to the wildlife sanctuary can find comfortable lodging in Andaman Teal House and
Government hotels and inns at Delanipurin, Port Blair.
Scuba diving, snorkeling, game fishing and camping are popular tourist activities in the region.
North Cinque is the ideal spot for snorkeling, scuba diving, beachside Barbeque and
sundowners. The great thing about this sanctuary is that the visibility range of the water around
the sanctuary is up to 80 feet.
Entry permit for visiting the park has to be obtained from the Forest Department. It can be easily
obtained by the tourists. However, consent for night stay in the sanctuary is seldom granted to
the visitors.
