Are you scared and depressed by hearing the news of death due to Covid-19
The news of natural calamities, such as earthquakes, cyclones and tsunamis are something we have
got used to in our daily lives; but perhaps for most of us, this is our first encounter with a deadly
virus that has claimed myriads of lives across the globe. Covid-19, as we know it popularly, has
greatly transformed the regular life of people across the globe. It is indeed ultimately depressing and
somewhat scary to get the news of deaths all around you.
The soaring death tolls have as if converted our lives into a horror story, where the characters of the
story are always in fear of the supernatural life-taking force, lurking around. The paranoia of masses
regarding the Covid-19 is ever increasing and does not seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
From a child to an aged person, everyone is deeply mentally affected by the advent of this invisible
foe. No doubt, it is quite difficult for any person to suddenly adapt into a changed environment
where everyone is home-bound and are not allowed to go out. This is precisely what is taking its toll
on every individual, including me.
Children, like me, are deprived of entry to the place where they grow and explore themselves - the
school. At the same time, the adults have to refrain from socialisation in any physical form, which
admittedly helps one to unwind. Travelling, partying, going on vacations, movies; basically all the
things that help us to take a break from our daily mundane life has come to a standstill. The Covid-19
and the ensuing lockdown have resulted in imposing fear and negativity in the minds of many.
However, the need of the hour is optimism; so instead of delving into the news of the ultimate
disaster all around me, I keep myself busy with things that can boost my morale. One of the things
that I do to stay away from the negativity of the lockdown is reading books. Books open the
windows of positive vibrations, and also help me to spend my time fruitfully.
While the number of deaths increases with each passing day, and with the delay in the discovery of
the anti-dote for this harmful virus, the doctors and health workers are doing their every bit to help
in keeping a positive outlook. Among the things they have asked people to do at large is to try and
boost their immune system. This virus is believed to be fatal for people with weak immune system.
So, the doctors and health workers advise people to consume foods that help in building one’s
immune system. Therefore, I have started eating lots of fruits and green vegetables to boost my
protection shield. Besides eating healthy food, I am also doing physical exercise for almost thirty
minutes, every day, at home. Sometimes, I resort to dancing as an alternative to doing freehand
exercises or yoga.
Staying indoors for prolonged days will definitely make most people frustrated and depressed.
Therefore, psychologists around the globe are helping out the people at large by uploading videos of
pep-talks on social media to help people battle depression. Sometimes, I do watch these videos to
keep myself motivated in this difficult time. Sometimes, I practice meditation to stay away from
negativity. Meditation is the best-proven method to keep our nerves calm and our emotions in
control.
Lack of a disciplined and routine lifestyle is one of the latest side-effects of this pandemic. With the
educational institutions and workplaces closed, this time of our lives seems to be more of a long
holiday. It is, therefore, imperative that every household, put in extra efforts to organise their daily
timetable and keep the home organized.
Thanks to technology that the schools are able to operate virtually and the corporate world through
the option to work from home. However, those who are not involved in either of these can choose
the option of doing something more creative. Satisfying your creative self can also help in bringing
satisfaction and peace of mind considerably.
It is absolutely necessary to stay positive at a time of such global crisis and keep the fire of hope
burning that the world will rise above the situation sometime soon. So, what we really need to do
now is pass on the candle of hope to each other and encourage one another to have faith. In this
way, we can together successfully pass through this difficult phase of pandemic.
